Misfit Christmas

I love Christmas!  I put up the tree, set out my nativity. I decorated our apartment door and put up my Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer display. A display that was started by my sister buying me one little misfit toy (the polka dot elephant) When we were just teenager’s. Over the last 30+ years I would add a piece here and there.

After Adam and I got married, his mom gave me a full display she had in their home, not even knowing that I had this collection started

Every year when on display, it reminds me of our marriage. Each piece came together slowly, then when my husband accepted Jesus in 2017, it was like all the pieces came together.

Like these figurines we are aging, we need cleaned up, little pieces fall off and may need restored or altered.

One figurine without the other’s is still great. Crafted by a maker that made sure to put all the details into every place it was intended to be.

Every flaw, mark, and chip show’s years of moving, little kid’s touching and even some adult’s that just could not resist taking a closer look.

Together, though they complement each other, just like our marriage. You could not imagine one without the other.

We were crafted by a Maker that makes no mistakes. Being placed in this sinful world our flaw’s mark’s and chips become to mold our thinking and action’s.

Through the Holy spirit we have a direct connection to our maker. Like these aged figurines we need restored.

Today many of us are celebrating Christmas in a different way. It may even feel empty and unfamiliar.

I want to share a secret I have learned; our expectations of Christmas will carry our attitudes into the New Year.

If we truly remember what today is about, we can celebrate the birth of our savior regardless of our circumstances.

Yes, it is ok to be sad. Of course, we miss our family and friends!  We can take a moment and rejoice that we have them in our lives to begin with.

We also can hold onto this day and remember the next time our schedule is full, and we are tempted to say, “let’s get together.” We stop what we are doing and take time to gather.

Today instead of feeling as though we cannot give anything remember that we can give everything with a simple prayer for those we love.

Through the Holy Spirit we have a direct connection to God, and we can give the most important gift.

Our actions to love harder. Forgive easier.  Have peace in this chaos, and Joy in a time of uncertainty. We show the enduring Love of Christ.

Was he not considered a Misfit? Just look at the way he was born.

23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” [a] (which means “God with us”).

Matthew 1:23

As we celebrate this Misfit Christmas, remember his sacrifice.

For, we pray to the Father, through (or in the name of) the Son, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Praying to one, we pray to all. All three are one.

We can pray to remember the year of the misfit Christmas and not just wait for 1 day on the calendar to celebrate his love for all of us.

It is Christmas every time you let God love others through you…yes, it is Christmas every time you smile at your brother and offer him your hand.” – Mother Teresa

If you are need of a prayer today, respond and I will pray for you.

Merry Christmas to all, May God bless each one of you!
